Interested in attending the Game Developers Conference? Are you a game developer, artist, designer, or maker and a student, unwaged/low-income, retired, freelance, or otherwise unable to attend GDC without financial assistance and a pack of pals to travel with? We are thrilled to announce the second annual DMG Scholarship Program for GDC, aimed at getting YOU to San Francisco next spring!
GDC Scholarship
GDC has once again donated 25 All-Access Conference passes (each valued at $2,095 USD) for DMG community members to attend GDC 2016 via the DMG Scholarship Program.

Additional Costs
Travel costs (airfare, accommodations, food, etc.–which can run upwards of $1,000 CAD) are still your responsibility. We realize this can be a significant barrier to your participation, even with the pass covered. We encourage you to apply even if you’re not sure you’ll be able to afford the related expenses, as we will support group fundraising activities early in the new year to help offset them.
About GDC
GDC will take place March 14-18, 2016 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. It’s the world’s largest and longest-running game industry event, featuring over 400 lectures, panels, tutorials and round-table discussions on a comprehensive selection of game development topics.

How to Apply
Applications will be accepted online from 12:01 a.m. on October 28, 2015 to 11:59 p.m. on November 17, 2015. All applicants will be notified of their status by December 1, 2015. A panel of DMG board and committee members will review all applications submitted.
We especially encourage submissions from Black and indigenous individuals, people of colour, and those living with disabilities. Additionally, please note that this scholarship is open only to trans and cis women, trans men, nonbinary, queer, genderqueer and gender nonconforming individuals. By submitting the application you affirm you identify within this broad spectrum. This information is never shared publicly, and the identities of individual scholarship applicants and recipients will not be shared without explicit consent.
Selection Process
Within the application, there is a question that is used to assess the overall (racial, ethnic, cultural, language, ability, etc.) diversity of the pool of applicants (not used in scoring specific applications). If on the closing date the pool of applicants represents > 50% positive response to this question, the jurying process will begin. If the pool represents < 50% positive response, DMG may choose to keep applications open longer.
After applications close, a panel of DMG board and committee members will collaboratively review, categorize and rank all applications submitted using a checklist of criteria. All identifying information (such as name and email address) is hidden from reviewers at all times during the selection process.
We're looking for:
- Applicants who have a strong sense of how they will personally benefit from attending GDC
- A group that represents a broad range of interests, skills and experiences
Additionally, priority is given to DMG members and those who have never attended before.
Then, the panel will finalize a group of the top 25 applicants, and let those selected know they have one month to confirm their spot. If spots open up, they will be offered to other applicants in an order determined during the jurying process.
